<p>Attaining lengths of 1.8m and tipping the scales at 500kg, the leatherback sea turtle <em>Dermochelys coriacea</em> is the largest of all living species. It has changed little since prehistoric times, and is easily identified by its prominently ridged back and streamlined shape.<br /><br />The beaches of Rantau Abang in Terengganu, on peninsular Malaysia’s east coast, once hosted the world’s largest nesting population of around 10,000 nests a year. Despite nesting having been effectively eradicated due to human consumption of eggs, a handful of these magnificent animals still return to the beach to lay.<br /><br />Our brilliant polish pewter sculpture depicts a proud giant, posed as it glides effortlessly through the oceans.<br /><br /><strong>About the collection</strong><br />Streamlined <em>objets</em> of unmistakable symbolism and presence, with emphasis on material, form and refinement.</p>
